Tolkien's Shorter Works

La Terre du Milieu de Tolkien, et son legendarium, ont attiré une grande attention de la part de la recherche universitaire. Mais il y a plus, chez Tolkien, que l'histoire et les légendes de la Terre du Milieu et, jusqu'ici, il y a toujours eu un certain manque de critiques universitaires axées sur ses œuvres de fiction courtes, tels le Fermier Giles de Ham, Smith de Wootton Major, Roverandom et sa poésie. Bien qu'il existe des études universitaires de ces travaux, elles traitent souvent les textes plus courts comme une réflexion postérieure, des notes de bas de page des textes « majeurs » plutôt que de leur porter la même exigence d'attention qui leur est due.

Ce manque d'études suggère qu'il est temps pour un examen plus approfondi des « travaux courts, Shorter Works » de Tolkien. Le volume actuel rassemble les conclusions d'une conférence conjointe de Walking Tree Publishers et de la Tolkien Society allemande à l'Université Friedrich Schiller de Iéna, en Allemagne en 2007. Divers aspects intéressants, des détails et des connexions ont été révélées, susceptibles d'élargir non seulement la compréhension de travaux courts de Tolkien, mais aussi du travail fictif global de l'auteur ainsi que l'homme et auteur J.R.R. Tolkien.
