To Lancelot her love gave she,

À Lancelot la reine son amour accorda,
sa grande gloire à lui donnant joie à Guenièvre.
Seulement à sa dame son amour accorda ;

plus chers que Guenièvre : la gloire uniquement,
l'honneur chevaleresque au côté de sa dame
en son cœur il plaçait. Hauts étaient ses desseins ;
longtemps il fut loyal à son seigneur Arthur
parmi l'ordre royal qu'était la Table Ronde,
prince sans nul pareil, fièrement il servait
et la reine et la dame. Mais l'argent glacial
ou bien l'or luisant que, femme au cœur cupide,
entre ses doigts prenait elle trouvait plus beaux,
estimant plus plaisant ce que seule gardait
sombrement amassé. Lancelot elle aimait
d'un amour infaillible, impitoyable dame,
belle ainsi femme-fée, et à l'esprit funeste,
qui marchait dans le monde pour le malheur des hommes.
