Galadriel's Song

I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves of gold there grew:
Of wind I sang, a wind there came and in the branches blew.
Beyond the Sun, beyond the Moon, the foam was on the Sea,
And by the strand of Ilmarin there grew a golden Tree.
Beneath the stars of Ever-eve in Eldamar it shone,
In Eldamar beside the walls of Elven Tirion.
There long the golden leaves have grown upon the branching years,
While here beyond the Sundering Seas now fall the Elven-tears.
O Lórien! The Winter comes, the bare and leafless Day;
The leaves are falling in the stream, the River flows away.
O Lórien! Too long I have dwelt upon this Hither Shore
And in a fading crown have twined the golden elanor.
But if of ships I now should sing, what ship would come to me,
What ship would bear me ever back across so wide a Sea?

J'ai chanté l'or des feuilles, les belles feuilles d'or,
Et là les feuilles d'or poussaient ;
J'ai chanté le vent, et un vent vint là du Nord
Qui parmi les branches soufflait.
Au-delà de la Lune, au-delà du Soleil,
L'écume sur la Mer dansait,
Et auprès d'Ilmarïn qui toujours est merveille,
Un brillant arbre d'Or poussait.
Sous les belles étoiles et sous l'Eternel Soir
En Eldamar l'Arbre brillait
Et versait sa lumière ; dans l'antique Eldamar
Et en Tirion enchantée ;
Là, longtemps ont poussé ses feuilles magnifiques
Au long des années propices
Tandis que coulent ici les larmes elfiques
A l'Est des Mers Séparatrices.
O Lórien ! L'Hiver s'avance maintenant,
Le triste jour nu et sans feuilles ;
Les feuilles tombent dans la Rivière et s'en vont,
Viennent les jours d'un triste deuil.
O Lórien, o Lórien ! Bien trop longtemps
Suis-je resté sur ce rivage,
Et en une couronne brillante ai-je tressé
L'élanor d'or et les nuages
Mais, las ! Si maintenant je chantais les navires,
Quel navire viendrait à moi ?
Quel navire pourrait m'emmener, et partir
Au-delà de la Mer, là-bas ?
