The Return of the Ring: Proceedings of the Tolkien Society Conference 2012

Peu d'auteurs du XX^e siècle peuvent égaler J.R.R. Tolkien. Plus de trois-quarts de siècle après la publication du Hobbit en 1937, ses œuvres continuent de captiver des millions de lecteurs à travers le monde. Comme recueil de conférences données en 2012 à la conférence internationale éponyme de la Tolkien Society en 2012, The Return of the Ring est représentative des réponses diverses et variées que les œuvres de Tolkien ont généré depuis des décennies. Le premier volume se concentre d'abord sur la vie de Tolkien, examinant les influences de la guerre, la philosophie et la religion sur sa mythologie. Le second volume beaucoup plus diversifié, recouvrant des thèmes allant du médiévalisme et du romantisme jusqu'à la fantasy et la modernité. Avec des contributions comme celles de John Garth, Colin Duriez, Ronald Hutton et Jannet Brennan Croft, The Return of the Ring est essentiel que ce soit pour les spécialistes ou pour lecteurs occasionnels.

“Return of the Ring: Celebrating Tolkien in 2012” est un colloque de 5 jours organisé par la Tolkien Society pour marqué les 75 ans de la publication du Hobbit. Organisé à l'université de Loughborough du 16 au 20 août 2012, il a réunit en un ensemble unique des fans et des spécialistes. En plus de l'excellente sélection de spécialistes représentés dans ces actes, il y a eu des chanteurs, des reconstituteurs, des artistes, des interprètes, des figures du fandom ainsi que le petit-fils de Tolkien. Avec approximativement 500 représentants de tout le globe, Return of the Ring fut l'un des plus grands évènements en rapport avec Tolkien organisé depuis les conférences de 1992 et de 2005 organisées par la Tolkien Society pour le centenaire de la naissance de Tolkien et pour le 50^ème anniversaire de la publication du Seigneur des Anneaux.
